Pull up a chair on The Front Porch.
Once upon a time, folks sat on the porch with the evening paper, listened to the radio, or waited for the late news to find out what happened around South Georgia.
Nowadays?
We're still sitting on the porch. We're just holding cell phones.
So we're changing the name of our weekly Stories Worth Reading feature to something that better fits the way we actually follow high school football today:
Worth Your Time
We're looking for the best free coverage we can find from across Gnat Country — newspaper stories, television reports, game highlights, interviews, radio shows, podcasts, photographs, school media, independent reporters and anything else that helps tell the story of South Georgia high school football.
If somebody is doing good work covering these kids and communities, we'd like to point you toward it.
And if you have to pull out a credit card before you can see it, we're going to keep looking.
📺 WALB — Locker Room Report
This is exactly the kind of thing we don't want to overlook.
WALB's Week 1 Locker Room Report brings together scores and video highlights from around South Georgia. Their Game of the Week was the long-awaited renewal between Colquitt County and Thomas County Central, but their Friday-night coverage stretched well beyond Thomasville.
Central certainly gave them something to put on television, beating Colquitt 57–21. WALB's scoreboard also had Lowndes over Jenkins 31–6, Valdosta over Jones County 52–14, Coffee over Parkview 49–14, Tift County over Luella 41–0 and the Ware County–Bainbridge thriller that Ware won 22–21.
This isn't just a story to read — the video highlights are the reason to visit.

WALB also spent part of Friday in Thomasville with its Hometown Tailgate, adding some of the atmosphere surrounding the Colquitt–Central matchup before kickoff.
🎥 WCTV — Football Friday Night
Here's another one made for the modern Front Porch.
WCTV's Football Friday Night provides a full video replay of its Friday-night high school football coverage along with the scoreboard from North Florida and South Georgia.
Instead of simply reading who won, you can sit back and watch their crew take you around the area.

And WCTV didn't stop when the highlights ended. WCTV Sports Overtime gave Alison and Ryan a chance to break down the biggest moments and interact with viewers after the games.

📺 WTOC — The End Zone
Don't forget the eastern side of Gnat Country.
Savannah's WTOC was out Friday night with The End Zone, gathering scores and highlights from the Coastal Empire and surrounding area.

South Georgia doesn't stop at I-75, and neither should we.
🎤 WTXL ABC 27 — South Georgia Coverage
WTXL ABC 27 continues to cover the Big Bend and communities across South Georgia. This week they spent time in Bainbridge as the Bearcats opened the 2026 season under a new head coach.

These television pieces are especially valuable because they let us hear directly from coaches and players instead of simply looking at a final score.
🏈 Don't Forget the Private Schools
Gnat Country means all of Gnat Country.
That includes GIAA and other private-school programs right alongside the GHSA schools.
For example, Tiftarea Academy hosted John Milledge Academy Friday night, and Valwood was also in action. Those programs deserve a place on our Front Porch just as much as Tift County, Lowndes, Thomas County Central, Brooks County or Worth County.
We'll continue searching specifically for free private-school coverage, rather than allowing it to disappear simply because the larger television and newspaper operations devote more space to GHSA football.
📰 Sometimes Reading Is Still Pretty Good, Too
We're not throwing written journalism off the porch.
Far from it.
When a reporter has been at practice all week, talked to the coaches, interviewed the players and written something that helps us understand a team better, that's worth our time too.
Likewise, scoreboards and statewide resources can help fill in the gaps when we're trying to figure out what happened everywhere Friday night.
The difference is that we're no longer limiting ourselves by format.
🪑 That's What the Front Porch Is For
Gnat Country isn't trying to replace the reporters, photographers, broadcasters, radio crews, videographers or content creators covering South Georgia football.
We need those people.
They're the ones driving to the stadiums, standing on sidelines, interviewing coaches, shooting highlights, taking photographs, keeping scoreboards updated and getting home considerably later than sensible people ought to.
Our job is different.
We're building a Front Porch.
We'll find the good stuff, point down the road toward the people who created it, give them credit, and hopefully introduce their work to a few folks who hadn't discovered them yet.
So from now on, Worth Your Time means exactly that.
Read it. Watch it. Listen to it. Look at it. Talk about it.
If it's good, freely available coverage of high school football in Gnat Country, there's a chair for it on the porch.
And there's probably somebody sitting in that chair looking at his phone.
